The debut single from emerging bedroom pop duo SoSo fauX opens with the distant spoken words: "... we are together twenty four seven." And with that, "twentyfourseven!" gently launches into its breezy, pulsing electronic vibe, embellished with sparse echoing guitars and delicate keys. The project is the creation of childhood friends Andreas Thordenburg and Nicolai Kjellberg, who started writing and producing songs together in 2019 after exploring music separately over the past several years.
Some readers might recognize Nico as one-half of commerical hit duo Hearts & Colors, whose success began with a video they posted to YouTube in late 2014 - an acoustic cover of the song, "Fireflies," by Owl City. The duo went on to release a string of their own successful singles, including "L.A. on a Saturday Night," "Lying to Myself" and "For the Love."
With a sound reminiscent of bands like Tame Impala, WLDLFE, Small Black, and The Japanese House, SoSo fauX establishes a strong melodic presence in "twentyfourseven!" led by Nico's soaring and emotive vocals, making this one of the smoothest, most enjoyable four-plus minute listens I've heard this year.
And even though I play those games
I’m just a boy without a name
But if I turn the page now
Is it time to act my age now?
On social media, SoSo fauX describes their mission as one that creates "a space for people to be organically brought together with nature, music and themselves." They add, "Just like the night, SoSo fauX bleeds out across humanity and lights up with their innovative indie creations, landing somewhere between abstract and vaguely familiar, in a contemporary indie pop reminiscent of 'the good old days.'"
Coinciding with the single release, the duo created an 80's inspired, zero budget music video for "twentyfourseven!" that sports a retro "VHS quality" look-and-feel.
If you're wanting more SoSo fauX, you're in luck! The duo reports that there's much more new music on the way. In the meantime, be sure to follow SoSo fauX on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) and listen to their music on Spotify, SoundCloud and Apple Music.
