Hailing from Bristol, UK, atmospheric indie rock outfit Alabaster marks their official entry into the indie scene with their impressive debut single, "Modern World." With musical influences ranging from Brian Jonestown Massacre to the likes of Jeff Buckley and David Bowie, the band delivers a solid, atmospheric, guitar-driven soundscape on their debut single, paired with haunting vocals over prominent, pounding drums. Like a ticking clock, the striking rhythmic intro to "Modern World" gives way to spacious vocal arrangements that progress to this outstanding song's powerful, resonating chorus: "Your heart beats light | So cold so slow."
Produced by Lee Slater (The Vaccines, Peace, Lana Del Rey), "Modern World" was a solid contender in this year's UK Record Store Day Unsigned Competition, and has been attracting significant attention from indie music media outlets since its official release. As for the single's theme, the band notes: "The song was inspired by the feeling of guilt that you cannot do enough to solve the homelessness problem. But we hope that the listener can also find their own meanings within the song."
