NYC-based indie pop duo Eighty Ninety has been in the studio writing and recording new music since returning from their performance at this year's SXSW festival in March, where they were named an "Artist You Should Have Seen At SXSW 2018" by LadyGUNN magazine. The duo, comprised of brothers Abner (vocals, production) and Harper James (guitar, production), describes their musical style of minimalist pop production built on acoustic instruments and electronic sounds as "808s and telecasters." Their previous single, "Your Favorite Song", was hand-picked by Taylor Swift for her official Spotify playlist Songs Taylor Loves in February, and was covered by publications ranging from Billboard and NME to Glamour and People Magazine.
Eighty Ninety emerges from hibernation to release their upbeat, summery new single "Dream", the second taste of new music from their upcoming Bowery Beach Road EP, out summer 2018. Presenting an acoustic-driven, rhythmic melody decorated with breezy, pulsing electronics and Abner's smooth, easy-going vocals, "Dream" is yet another stunning example of Eighty Ninety's brilliant songwriting and production talents.
"I find myself dreaming a lot of the time (not just while I'm asleep). I always have," Eighty Ninety's Abner James tells SoundThread Music Blog. "This song is about the parallel life that those dreams can create - which for me can become just as messy as real life - and what it feels like when the boundaries between dreams and reality start to blur. We tried to reflect that blurring in the production, slipping in and out of dreamier soundscapes in order to mirror the story, until everything collides in the final choruses."
The band kicked off their first performance of the summer on Monday, June 18 at Zone One at Elsewhere in Brooklyn, NY, and will perform at this year's 2nd annual Degraw Fest on August 4, a daylong music festival featuring the best in new Brooklyn music.
