If you are a fan of atmospheric, acoustic, lo-fi folk in the style of Sufjan Stevens, Iron and Wine, or Mojave 3, then you definitely need to check out In Silver Halides, the spectacular and enchanting new album from West London-based acoustic singer-songwriter Lowpines (a.k.a. Oli Deakin). With musical releases dating back to mid-2012, Lowpines has been crafting elegant, dreamy and stunning acoustic indie folk gems that bring to mind images of gentle rains, summer evenings, fireflies and starry skies. In Silver Halides is indeed the perfect soundtrack for night driving on a calm summer evening out in the country.
With all songs written and produced by Oli, the album was recorded in London (Bella Union Studios) with IggyB, and in Brooklyn (Walker Studio) with Christopher Keyes, with mixing by Ted Young. Additional musicians included Jamie Deakin (Drums) and Jesse Chandler (Flute).
While every one of the nine tracks on In Silver Halides is each breathtaking in its own right, my picks for standout songs include the smooth, uptempo and inspirational "Broken Wing" with its breezy, soaring chorus; the soft, delicate, and utterly gorgeous "Come On Chaos"; and "We Come Right," the gentle-paced album opener and first single from this excellent new Lowpines album.
Lowpines recently filmed a live video for album track "Come On Chaos" from a Brooklyn rooftop. Put on your headphones, turn up the volume, and watch this one full-screen and hi-def to fully take in this magical Lowpines live performance.
